Juvenile Dermatomyositis

Juvenile Dermatomyositis occurs in children aged between 5 and 15. Although similar in many respects to adult DM, JDM is often characterised by calcium deposits forming in the skin (calcinosis) causing lumps or ulceration. The rash usually occurs before the onset of muscle weakness but the progression of the weakness can vary considerably from between weeks to years.
